Introduced and general chat

Post by Justjeff »

Hi Flyers
I’ve put most of this on “Dads Hangar” that George invited me to join, thinking it was just for our club so, if you’ve already seen it, just skip.

It started at Christmas around mid eighties when my then wife asked me what present I wanted.
I got an old Super 60 with an old surpass 40 and Futaba 4lk TX. Learned at Woking club, got my A Cert then

After joining BMAC, got my B Cert and eventually became Chairman for about 8 years when we found the present site. I designed the club Logo that you now all wear on caps And T shirts and is shown above to encompass all three disciplines without favouritism for any one of them.

I’ve not been at the field for some time due to medical issues which has reminded me that time is marching on and I really must reduce my stock of models and spares to reduce the work that my son must face at some time but will keep enough to hopefully get back to flying before too long.
May need some help as must be a bit rusty.
Also must mention the superb club officers and committee that do an excellent job for all the members.
That’s enough so will just say how much I’ve missed the cameradie and lovely rude insults with you guys.
Very Best

Hi there Geoff,

I nice to read your bit of club history, this type of thing all too often gets forgotten by the mist of time. The other club night Colin and I were trying to put names to Denis’s Wednesday crew, Sam Pilgrim and or Dave Richardson maybe.

Maybe there should be a thread of people’s stories about the club’s history and past members.

This also sort of came about last year when a gent called Baz Hance I think! dropped off a load of old stuff. There was one plane that I’ve been tinkering with, that shouted Sam Pilgrim to me, I don’t know why and I can’t find anything out about the model.

Hope we see you up the field soon, I somehow suspect that your rusty is another man’s excellent.

Hi Roy, only just saw this.
Thanks for your encouragement, means a lot.
I’ll try to dig out some old photos of Crabtree and when we were working on the current site to convert from a ploughed field into a flying strip.
Yes, Sam, what a guy,he showed us around his home Barbados some years ago.
Don’t know if he’s still around.
